MY DAD
After a while Dad moved away to where we couldnt get to him so easily. I didn't have a car of my own so I called him often and stayed in touch.
Then there is my Mom. She raised all us kids on her own cause Dad slept all day and worked all night. She ironed for a lady down the block we were able to come home from school and have lunch with mom (back in the 50's) and it was cool. The we'd run back to school. She was a very affectionate, loving, and caring woman. She watched out for us very well until she thought we were able to watch out for ourselfs.
Then one day we heard the word "DIVORCE" and it broke our hearts Mom was moving us to a new place that we had no idea even existed all I ever knew was Chicago. I was scared to go to this new town. It frightened me to pieces. Mom did everything possible to support and raise us kids. WAY back then she only got like 50.00 a week for each of us. That's just not enough and she didnt have a college degree and just wasnt ready for a divorce.
I'm not going to go into my Mothers private history all I can say is she was my best friend and as a little girl someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grow up and Mom stood there waiting for my answer and I said I want to be just like my Mom... and she kept telling me no no no you don't and one day you will understand.
Today I understand and I wish I had tried harder in school. But I just didn't seem to care.
So we 5 grew up in a very small 2 bedroom house and when Mom and Dad divorced we moved in with this guy Mom was going to marry. He had a big family of his own but he needed someone to help him with his establishment and his kids. Well ...... I was stunned. I loved the thought of being able to get a allowance every weekend (they b ought me)..... but I didnt like it there and I couldnt wait for us to leave. I just knew it wasnt going to be forever. We werent accustomed to that type of living.
So Mom finally got us out of there and we got the cutest house to rent for 250.00!!!!!! I would give my right arm to have that house today for 250.00 It was just perfect.!@ Its where I met my first love. its where I became a woman. It's where I got in the most trouble. It's where my brother stood up for me and decked some kid who came to our door with roses and candy for me to ask me out. Man he would have such a good catch. But NOBODY was good enough for Mike's baby sister. Did I fail to mention I am the baby of the family? oops sorry.
Then we all went our own ways. Mike went and got married. Linda and I got our own apartment, Peggy moved to Boston, came back and got her own apartment. Bobby got married and I have no idea where he went to. Mom remarried, His name was Ed. at first we none liked him. He wanted my mother all to hisself and didnt want us kids around. but we weasled our way into his heart and he finally accepted us. I became his favorite of course LOL Oh there's just so much to tell. (more later)
