Memory Lane

When we were just little kids Mom always left the front door open on hot nights waiting for Dad to come home. Before Dad would get home we would eat around 4:30pm and then it was outside....we played kick the can, hide and seek, Tag, or else someone would get in an argument and we'd have a fight but it was never nothing when it was over we were still friends.

I use to go to my neighbors house where "Sissy" lived and we'd go up in her bedroom play dolls I was around 7 then. and we'd have loads of fun ... Or else I'd go down to the corner end of the block and play with "Jill" and she had a brother that hung out with my brother Mike. But Jill had a beautiful bedroom of her own and I just loved it. cause I never had a bedroom of my own. Everything was all pretty. I just wondered why didnt I have all that stuff? Evidently, cause I didnt need it.. What we did have was lots of love..

My mom was always home. Her Mom was not, they were considered latch key kids at the time and we had all the love and affection we needed and if we wanted for more we got it. They had material things galore. But I had Mama. and that's what counted.

when the porch light came on we knew we needed to get out butts in the house it was bedtime. Not TV time or anything else. It was bedtime! no ifs ands or buts about it. Mom use to stand in the front door just looking outside and she'd tell us she had eyes in the back of her head to turn over and go to sleep.

well of course we'd still fool around peggy linda and I and she'd say Carolann I see yoU!@
well that would scare me to death cause i knew she hadn't turned around. she was looking into a glass door and seeing my reflection. what a tricky mom.

Sometimes if i couldnt sleep or mom would be afraid i'd wake up and she'd be gone, she took me with her late at night to go pick up dad from work. We'd go to Ohenrys it was like a McDonald to get Dad something to eat and of course they shared whatever it was with me. I loved it. The funniest part about the whole thing is. I would stand between my mom and dad while they drove. I was just a little kid. i remember that all so well. No cop stopped us, my mom wasnt a drag racer, and we got home safe and sound and I lived to tell about it.

You know a persons first instinct when cars are driving radically (like I was on the way home) is to hold on.! sit down, get down protect your self. Even a child knows this. Seat belts can work for good or bad but I'd sure hate to be stuck in one with a car on fire cause that things gonna be too hot to touch........ or to get out of car when its going into water, a child can't get herself out. right? They need help, how much easier is it too just grap the child and run?

off my soap box.

Anyway that was my childhood and i loved it and wouldnt trade it for the world.
Linda was a tomboy
Mike was right outside there with me
Peggy was a book reader
Bobby...... he was just never around.
